Govt in process of amending Minimum Wages Act

They said that even if you accept research that says modest minimum-wage increases don’t depress employment – which, again, is a claim not all economists agree with – it’s unwise to blithely assume that an increase to $15 will have no negative impact on hiring and hours worked. Speaking in the cold language of a businessman looking at his bottom line, Trump even seemed to indicate overall American wages, regardless of the law, were too generous already.

The goal of the study was to assess the “costs, benefits, and consequences of incarceration and other criminal justice policies” from an economic perspective, and researchers determined that some of the most effective ways to combat crime is through increased job opportunities, school enrichment activities, and a living wage. “I mean you have to have something that you can live on, but what I’m really looking to do is get people great jobs so they make much more money than that so they make more money than the $15”.

States are empowered to notify the Minimum Wage Act for different types of works. In fact, some suggest that raising the minimum wage that high could produce enough job losses to increase – not decrease – public assistance costs. Rick Santorum, R-Pa., as the only GOP presidential candidate who has shown support for raising the federal minimum wage, The Hill reported. A $15 wage is a dramatic increase, especially in rural areas and small cities. He said then that the minimum wage should stay the same. Raising the federal minimum wage to $10.10 from its current level, a 39 percent increase, would lift close to one million workers out of poverty, according to a 2014 report by the Congressional Budget Office. Just because the government forcefully raises the minimum wage does not mean everyone’s pay goes up.

“No such study of a $15 wage hike exists – and economists say there’s good reason to believe that jobs lost from a wage hike that large could be significant. Our taxes are too high, our wages are too high, everything is too high”, Trump said on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe”.

Both of Trump’s potential Democratic opponents back raising the minimum wage, but the issue caused a bit of a dust-up at CNN’s debate last month.
