Kentucky Derby report Oaklawn horses get educated

This year’s Kentucky Derby has a couple of leaders at the front of the pack and then several other horses that seem to be in a large group.

You can make an argument for numerous horses in this year’s Derby.

This leaves Mohaymen, my pick to win. And I admit they are stabs.

“I give a lot of credit to my wife for my success the past two years. because of her I’ve invested more in myself now”. He also works with strength and stretching coaches.

“I’m just hoping for the best and he wins the big race”. “I always think in my mind I have a chance to win”.

The Kentucky Derby has been run on the first Saturday in May every year since 1946. “More than anything, I’m so happy with the way he’s training, the way he’s acting”. Drawing inside isn’t the worst, but the No. 2 hole has not been a favorable post with the last No. 2 horse winning in 1978. One can argue this $2.2 million purchase didn’t take well to the “good” track surface at Gulfstream Park in the Florida Derby.

“I was a good college athlete and athletics put me through college”, Cameron said. “He’s a horse that’s very professional. It was very rare”. He’s lost his last two races but I think Baffert is going to have him cranked up for a career-top effort on Saturday.

Reddam hails from Windsor, Ontario, across the Detroit River from the city. And I do love how he responded to it.

If Nyquist had the kind of speed figures Chrome and Pharoah had coming into the Derby, I would pronounce him a lock and bet with the same kind of confidence I had in Chrome in 2014. With possible speed horses like Mohaymen and Outwork breaking from the two gates just to his outside, and Danzing Candy with likely no choice but to send from post 20, jockey Mario Gutierrez will have to make his choice early on where he plans to place Nyquist. In 2012, I’ll Have Another became the first Derby victor to leave from Post 19.

Nyquist did bolt out of No. 13 when he claimed the Breeders Cup Juvenile at Keeneland past year, and the post will allow jockey Mario Gutierrez space to work from the middle of the pack towards to the rail rather than getting stuck against it and sent to the bottom of the pack before the first turn. “Some of these horses are a little lightly raced and they’re improving”.

“The more I look at him, the more I like him”, said Espinoza, pointing to his troubled trip in the Arkansas Derby.

The problems a big field presents are getting caught in traffic and having to jostle for position.

“We’ll just have to make history again this year”, Baffert said. “He’s got enough speed to hopefully stay in contact with the lead, and we need to be well ahead of the closers”. It was 1992 when Lil E. Tee became the first Pa. bred to win the Derby.

American Pharoah finally broke the 37-year streak of no Triple Crown of Thoroughbred Racing.

However, Nyquist tweeted a good-luck message to his namesake this week, “Best of luck to @NyquistHorse running @KentuckyDerby this weekend”. “Our team is really grounded, we don’t want to think too much but at the same time we believe he has the potential to go all the way”. Carpe Diem ran a 102 to win last year’s Blue Grass Stakes; Brody’s Cause a 91 this year.

And although Gutierrez is back in racing’s limelight, he cherishes his time at Hastings Racetrack.

For me, it doesn’t get any better than that. They say you should start with the hat and go from there. Brands (gr. I) entrants on the track early for their routine exercise.
