Trump has suggested that he was caught off guard when Ryan announced he wasn’t ready to back the businessman, who this week become the party’s presumptive nominee.

US President Barack Obama has taken a swipe at Donald Trump, warning that occupying the White House is “not a reality show”, a bilstering reference to the likely Republican nominee’s television background.

Alley said he would support whoever is the Republican nominee and “move forward with that”.

Speaking of the Affordable Care Act Clinton said, “Donald Trump says he is going to repeal it. Somebody should ask, ‘What are you going to replace it with?’ and if the answer is ‘something great, ‘ there should be at least a follow-up question, don’t you think?” Trump asked. “With millions of people coming into the party, obviously I’m saying the right thing”, he argued.

Within an hour, Mr Trump offered a biting rejoinder, saying in a statement that he was “not ready to support Speaker Ryan’s agenda”.

“Perhaps in the future we can work together and come to an agreement about what is best for the American people”, Trump wrote.

But Trump’s clumsy effort to reach out to one alienated group of voters triggered an immediate backlash after he tweeted a photograph of himself eating a taco bowl, adding “I love Hispanics!”

Underscoring the split in the party, Ryan’s defenders Friday came from the ranks of the establishment.

According to The Wall Street Journal, only 12 of the 300 Republicans serving in the House and Senate, and three of the 31 Republican governors, have endorsed Trump.

Weighing in on the ongoing Democratic race between Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders, the president said “let’s let the process play itself out”, but also acknowledged “everybody knows what that math is”.

“I would say that they’re better off without it, personally”, Trump told Fox News on Wednesday. Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus, who is close with the speaker, got no advance warning before Ryan’s comments were made public.

Democrats are generally steering clear of the Republican infighting, letting the party’s leaders tear at each other. While Trump declares that such GOP naysayers don’t really matter when compared to all the votes he garnered in primary elections, he still takes time to mock Bush and Graham.

Dole had originally endorsed former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush.

“This is not a reality show”, Obama said.

“The good news is that there is a pretty strong consensus within the Democratic Party on the vast majority of issues”, he said.

“Now the Republican Party is the talk of the world because there’s no place and no party that’s, you know, increasing in scope like we have”. She was referring to past Republican leadership that promoted failed presidential tickets such as Ryan’s run with Mitt Romney back in 2012.

Ryan said that the meeting would occur next Thursday and that Trump also would meet with other House GOP leaders
