Troopers from Rashtriya Rifles, special operations group and central reserve police force surrounded Panzgam village late Friday and the encounter started around 3.30 a.m.
As the forces were conducting a search operation, the hiding terrorists fired upon them, triggering an encounter. The Indian Army officials also recovered arms and ammunition from the site of the encounter.
The slain militants have been identified as Ishfaq Ahmad Dar of Dogirpura, Ishfaq Ahmad Baba of Tahab and Haseeb Ahmad Pahla (Palla) of Bandina. He was shifted to a hospital for treatment.
Later during the day when the security forces had left the scene of encounter, an unexploded grenade went off seriously injuring 18-year-old Waqas Ahmed Wagay among residents who had gathered there, witnesses said. The cops retaliated by firing tear smoke shells and resorting to baton charge to disperse them.
