20 arrested amid protests at Trump rally in California

To avoid several hundred demonstrators the billionaire businessman was forced to halt his motorcade and, guided by secret service agents, cross a freeway and pass through a barrier in a fence to access the hotel where the convention was taking place.

“That was not the easiest entrance I’ve ever made”, Trump told the gathering.

Trump and his entourage got out and walked into the building.

After delivering his speech without incident, Trump was again escorted out the back entrance.

Trump is moving closer to winning the Republican nomination after a string of victories this week however California is a key state where his rivals could disrupt his momentum.

But his seemingly unstoppable progress has angered many people and sparked protests across the country wherever he appears.

Hundreds of protesters gathered to demonstrate against Donald Trump on Friday in what was the second day of protests in a row against the GOP frontrunner. Larry is our main news editor. “It felt like we were crossing the border, actually”.

Numerous protesters were on hand because of Trump’s stance on immigration, including Frank Lara, a fourth-grade teacher from San Francisco who carried a Trump piñata.

Trump has controversially accused Mexico of sending drug dealers and rapists across the USA border and has promised to build a wall and make Mexico pay for it.

No Republican has won California in the general election in 28 years.

“It went gangbusters. They attacked me”, said Chris Conway, a mortgage broker from San Mateo.

Trump, who has a commanding lead in California polls ahead of the June 7 primary, called for the Republican Party to unite behind him and decried the nominating process in both parties as “rigged” in favor of the establishment.

During a large rally in Southern California Thursday night, violence broke out near the Orange County Fairgrounds while Trump spoke to an audience of approximately 18,000 supporters.

Protestors blocked some of the surrounding streets, damaged police cars and threw stones and other debris at police officers and their vehicles, according to the media.

Trump now has 80 percent of the 1,237 delegates needed to clinch the nomination.
