Besiktas complete Mario Gomez deal

Turkish giants Besiktas have completed a move for Fiorentina striker Mario Gomez, with the German striker agreeing to a one year loan deal and an option to make the transfer permanent.

“Besiktas announce that [on] Thursday the membership reached an settlement with Fiorentina for the mortgage of Mario Garcia Gomez”, the membership stated.

The Istanbul giants had long been chasing the German international’s signature, announcing the commencement of talks with Fiorentina on Wednesday evening.

Besiktas, who finished third in the Turkish Super Lig in the 2014/2015 season, have been hunting for a world class striker to replace Senegalese hitman Demba Ba who has joined Shanghai Shenhua.

He has scored 14 goals in 47 appearances for the Serie A club, despite missing part of his first season due to a knee injury, and bagged 25 goals in 59 appearances for Germany since 2007.

The 30-year-old joins a number of high-profile names to move to Turkey this season, including Robin van Persie, Lukas Podolski and Nani.
