If you missed this drug collection, you can also bring unwanted medicines to the Verona Green Fair in the center of town on Saturday, May 21, for disposal from 11 a.m.to 4 p.m.

“National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day allows us to work together to cut off a significant source of the drug supply”, Williamson said in the release.

On April 30, participating law enforcement agencies in the state collected a total of 5,876 pounds of prescription drugs.

Brittni Kaylor, Mason County Prevention Coalition coordinator, said the event was very successful at both take-back locations – the New Haven Fire Station and the Mason County Courthouse parking lot in Point Pleasant. This is a day when citizens can drop off unused or out-dated prescription medication to be properly disposed of. Last October, more than 44,000 pounds of prescription drugs were collected. The top 5 states with the largest collections last weekend were Texas (40 tons), California (32 tons), Wisconsin (31 tons), IL (24 tons), and MA (24 tons).

Kristy Duritsch, of the Coalition for a Healthy Middletown, is glad to see the unused drugs get turned in.
