Maruti, Hyundai, Mahindra Begin FY17 With Robust Sales

Country’s largest carmaker Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) today posted a 13.3 per cent rise in total sales in April at 1,26,569 units as against 1,11,748 units past year.

Ford India and Renault too reported good sales growth in April. He said the company, the market leader, is making efforts to improve availability of the Baleno and Brezza which run long waiting lists. The company’s sales of vans have increased by 20.3% to 14520 units in April 2016 as against 12069 units in April 2015.

The recently launched Vitara Brezza provided a big fillip to the company’s UV sales in April as they rose over 260 percent to 16,044 units (April 2015: 4,452 units).

However, sales of mini-segment cars, including the Alto and Wagon R, declined 9.9 per cent to 31,906 units from 35,403 units in the year-ago period.

Automobile makers have started the new fiscal on a good note with the monthly sales in April reporting a double-digit growth year-on-year (YoY) in not only the passenger Auto and two-wheeler segments, but also in the commercial vehicle category. The company’s Sr. Vice President (Sales and Marketing) Rakesh Srivastava said Hyundai continued its growth momentum, amid industry seeing challenges on rural sales and diesel vehicle sales. It sold 16,044 units of utility vehicles in April as against 4452 units sold in the same month past year.

Renault India’s sales zoomed over three-fold to 12,426 units in April as against 4,001 units previous year.

On its part, India’s second largest vehicle maker Hyundai Motor India Ltd sold 54,420 units (domestic 42,351 units, exports 12,069 units) last month as against 51,505 units (domestic 38,601 units, exports 12,904 units) during April 2015. Pravin Shah, chief executive officer at Mahindra, said while the company expects to maintain its growth momentum, concerns remain on the ban of large diesel vehicles in the National Capital Region.”We do hope that the honorable Supreme Court. will take cognisance of all the facts, including the role that the automotive industry plays in the country’s industrial growth”, Shah said. “We are now taking corrective measures to address the situation”.

The company said it sold 198 units of Brio, 869 units of Jazz, 2,639 units of Amaze, 5,793 units of City, 374 units of Mobilio, 567 units of BR-V and 46 units of CR-V.

The company sold 126,569 units (domestic 117,045 units, exports 9,524 units) in total, as against 111,748 units (domestic 100,709 units, exports 11,039 units) in the corresponding month past year, the company said in a statement. Elsewhere, Honda was among the few auto majors in India to record a downward spike last month.

However Honda Cars India sales came down to 10,486 units last month from 12,636 units sold in April 2015.
