Aberdeen haven’t even managed a single point in 21 visits since but they have been responsible for two of the three Premiership defeats inflicted on Ronny Deila’s side this season.
“But we can only concentrate on ourselves and we are confident we can improve again”.
Celtic will have a new manager in charge for next season and Roberts is keen to make a good impression. The next step is to repeat the successes we’ve had at home down in Glasgow as an indication of what we can do next season.
“I don’t like sitting around watching managers suffering and I think if they can win the FA Cup then it might just give him the breathing space to finish the job off next year – and that, when we’re talking about Manchester United, is winning league titles, et cetera”.
Shinnie missed out on a holiday because of the upheaval of relocating to Aberdeen and the need to report back early to prepare for Europa League qualifiers, but he’s certainly shown no signs of fatigue 11 months on.
“I think at the last European Championships the players involved had a poor start to the first game”. We had aspirations to win the league and there’s nothing wrong with that.

Nevertheless, the Cork native said that the Boys in Green will be ready for the challenge having learned some harsh lessons at Euro 2012 where they failed to pick up a point and identified the opening game against Sweden as a key fixture. “We want to stay as long as we can, get out of the group, take on some of the bigger countries”. We had a wee dip of form at the beginning of the season but we got together as a group and decided we had to get out of that and put it right.
