Over the past two seasons, Galette has become the Saints top pass-rusher with 22 sacks. Given the serious nature of his offenses, it won’t be surprising if he doesn’t play football in 2015. Less than a year ago he signed a four-year contract extension worth $41.5 million, making him the third-highest paid linebacker in the league. His absence could help rookie second-round draft pick Hau’oli Kikaha secure a key role. He had suffered a torn pectoral muscle in the weight room this summer but was told he would not need surgery.

The NFL is now looking into the off the field incidents involving Galette, and the Saints delivered a pre-emptive strike to a possible suspension handed down from the league.
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports that New Orleans has been frustrated with Galette’s situation “for a while”. Galette’s release could have repercussions for the Saints as they try to manage their salary cap.
The Saints originally signed Galette, who was born in Haiti, as an undrafted free agent out of Stillman in 2010. OverTheCap.com is saying the team will have $5.45 million in dead money for 2015 and $12.1 million in dead money for the 2016 season. He drew the ire of current and former teammates last season when he derisively insisted that the Saints’ current defensive players were better than the veterans from their Super Bowl era.
