Kroger is recalling several snacks that contain sunflower seeds because of a possible listeria contamination.

The companies issued the recalls after supplier SunOpta notified them that sunflower seeds may have been contaminated with listeria, Keith Dailey of Kroger Co. and Ron Bottrell of TreeHouse Foods, Inc., confirmed on Thursday. The products were packaged at, or distributed from Hickory Harvest between the dates of February 15, 2016 and May 2, 2016. SunOpta declined to comment on whether it was the source of the sunflower nuts in those two recalls. This product was distributed nationwide to retail stores between March 7 and April 25. The FDA has a full list of products and labels here.

Listeria, known by its scientific name of Listeria monocytogenes, is the bacterium that causes listeriosis, an infection that affects the gastrointestinal tract.

The recalls connected to the SunOpta plant in Crookston involves items sold at Giant Eagle, as well as products made by Treehouse Foods, a major private-label food manufacturer.

Consumers may take the product back to the point of purchase or discard them. Customers with questions may call Giant Eagle Customer Care at 1-800-553-2324 Monday through Friday 9am to 9pm.

Kroger isn’t the only company recalling sunflower products this week.

A supplier indicated the sunflower kernels may be contaminated with Listeria monoytogenes, an organism which could result in severe illness to those who may consume the affected products.
