Delhi police constable files criminal defamation case against Arvind Kejriwal

Arvind Kejriwal is Chief Minister of Delhi but his perspective seems to have totally changed. The chief minister’s comment had triggered a controversy following which two Delhi Police constables had lodged their complaints at Govindpuri and Lajpat Nagar Police Stations.

Pandey said, “I had gone to Rajinder Nagar police station to enquire about the detained volunteers”.

“The chief minister has the right to ask these questions”. Their (volunteers) photographs were also shown despite the fact they want to ask justice for 19-year-old Meenakshi… “If there is a case of rape in Delhi, Sheila Dikshit takes an excuse that she has no control over the police”, he said during a talk show on television channel Aaj Tak in 2013.

On AAP’s demand for bringing Delhi Police under the city government, Bassi had said there is no need for any changes in its current administrative structure.

Reading out the copy of the FIR, the party’s Delhi unit convenor Dilip Pandey accused the police of naming just one accused in its report, even when “three people including the mother of those who stabbed the girl were involved”. (You know that the Delhi government has no control over Delhi Police).

Mr Kejriwal, who has been fighting to get greater powers of control over the police, has blamed Prime Minister Narendra Modi for “the deteriorating law and order situation in Delhi”.

The AAP government had always maintained that not only are the Delhi Poilice defiant (he recently called them thullas), they basically dance to the tunes of the Centre, run by a rival party.

Last week, a 19-year-old girl was allegedly stabbed 32 times by two brothers for resisting harassment in the Anand Parbat market.

Delhi was redesignated as National Capital Territory by an act of Parliament in 1993, but it is still governed as any other UT, where issues of land, law and order and police remain vested with the central government through the Lieutenant Governor.
