Overwatch Open Beta vs Retail Version

As for the game itself and how it runs, Kaplan noted that the Overwatch open beta will be similar to the launch version. Aside from that, fans should also expect post-launch content from Blizzard which may include more characters, maps and skins.

If you’ve been playing Overwatch these last few days, you might have been wondering exactly how representative of the final product this beta is. So, as a small way of saying “thank you” to our community and the millions of players who’ve logged in so far, we will be extending the Open Beta by 1 day on all platforms.

One of the biggest differences in the two versions is the Competitive Play.

Here’s his response to a fan asking about the beta in full. Here’s Blizzard: “No. All progression including skins, rewards, levels, and stats gained during the Open Beta will be reset at launch”. The open beta will now end on the 10th of May at 10am PDT. This is due in part to the “ton of great feedback on how to improve the system” that Kaplan said they received after it was made available on the closed beta which is code for “this feature now sucks and hardcore gamers are angry”. Blizzard did some fine work on making sure the bots mimicked real play-styles from real humans to help bring the AI opponents to life in a convincing way. Overwatch will be available on the PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
