Mayweather says McGregor fight ‘possible’

Reports emerged during the week – and were immediately dismissed by the MMA community – that a multi-million dollar fight between Mayweather and Conor McGregor was on the verge of being announced.

If the fight does happen, The Sun (the tabloid story White is referring to) reported that Mayweather would earn the lion’s share of the purse with $144 million to McGregor’s $10 million.

According to a “source”, the fight would reportedly be “strictly boxing” and McGregor would be forced to “lose roughly 25lbs”.

The revelation was made by The Sun, which claims that the two will go toe-to-toe in Las Vegas this summer. It’s like comparing baseball and softball, and suggesting that an MMA fighter could defeat a boxer in a boxing match would be like suggesting a slugger in softball could win a major league home run title.

For his part, McGregor teased his fans with the possibility of a Mayweather fight via social media Sunday.

The Notorious took to Twitter to post a doctored image of the pair face-to-face above the words “Mayweather McGregor”.

UFC president Dana White threw cold water on the story in a conversation with Yahoo, stating: “It’s not true; it’s just a tabloid story”.

“He’s been on a world-wide vacation and hasn’t even been thinking of fighting”.

Mayweather Promotions hosted the Washington April 30 show featuring James DeGale and Badou Jack, and Floyd then admitted that he had been in talks with CBS and Showtime about a potential return.

This rivalry stems from when Mayweather said he was annoyed that McGregor isn’t criticized to the same extent as he is and he believes that’s because of racism. Vs. Conor McGregor Fight May Break Records, But…

Mayweather has in recent weeks ramped up talk that the fight could take place.

There is bad blood between the two fighters after a number of barbs aimed at each other by both men over the years.
