Wade’s shots during Canadian anthem spark some outrage

He will take that shot even when only The Star-Spangled Banner is played.

“[Saturday], everything started a little later than it did when we were in Canada [for Games 1 and 2]; it started at 12:30 on the clock”, said Wade, who scored a game-high 38 points in Saturday’s loss that gave Toronto a 2-1 series lead. “So if anyone thinks I’m being disrespectful to a country, then they have no idea who Dwyane Wade is”.

“It’s something that I do before every game that I prepare for, and I’ve been doing it my whole career”, Wade said after Sunday’s practice.

Fans can see how Wade reacts to the anthem when the series continues in Miami with Game 4 Monday at 8 p.m. ET.

Wade explained the timing of the playing of the anthems was off marginally and caught him by surprise.

In the video, you can see Wade shoot at least three jumpers – missing all three – as a young girl began singing the anthem. When Canada’s lone National Basketball Association franchise plays in Miami, the anthems start earlier than the regular schedule.

Canadian politicians were quick to express their displeasure with the perceived slight.

Kelly has also tweeted out details on how Americans can apply to immigrate to Canada, a cartoon of the Raptors’ mascot squeezing Wade and on Sunday, a request that the operations staff in Toronto’s arena play no other music than “O Canada” when the series returns to Ontario on Wednesday.

However, while the Heat shooting guard was hot for the night and have won the battle the Toronto Raptors and Canada won the war as the team from north of the border won the third game in the series, 95-91.

“Players, coaches and trainers are to stand and line up in a dignified posture along the sidelines or on the foul line during the playing of the national anthem”.
