Canelo Alvarez vs Amir Khan

Khan will be a heavy underdog against Mexican superstar Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, but said the confidence he has in cornerman Virgil Hunter is indispensable heading into the biggest fight of his life.

“I think he’s where he wants to be”.

Amir Khan deserves credit for embracing this risky assignment.

Alvarez, who is based in California, said: “I don’t really like getting into political issues but it hurts, it offends, I would like him to understand us”. De La Hoya, the founder of Golden Boy Promotions, which promotes Alvarez, admits his fighter has earned his admiration.

In Khan’s most recent fight, he laboured to a unanimous decision victory against an opponent who had been exposed and dropped six times by Manny Pacquiao just six months before. Boxing’s a business, and I’ve got a great team around me who have been looking after me in that sense. If Golovkin does agree to the cathch-weight and lose the fight due to him being weakened, he likely will never get a rematch with Canelo at the full weight for the middleweight division.

Furthermore, when he was questioned about fighting against “The Notorious One”, his rather interesting reply was, “If I was to fight the champion around 147 lbs, I would fancy my chances”. Expect Khan to remain elusive in the early rounds and produce some flashy work as Canelo walks him down and settles into the fight. (Khan’s) not actually the same style, but the volume of punches remind me of Joe Calzaghe – a guy that swarms you with punches so much that by the time you get your bearings, the fight’s over.

Despite the added tension of Trump, both fighters were subdued during the press conference and Khan admitted the clash will be one of his toughest yet.

Hatton’s concern is that by putting on some extra pounds to move up, Khan may have slowed down for what will be his first fight in a year since beating American Chris Algieri.

“If I’d had him at nine, man, we wouldn’t be talking about Mayweather or nobody, we’d be talking about Amir Khan”.

He believes he’ll be stronger in this fight because he hasn’t drained himself to make a lower weight.

“If you want to be great, or dare to be great, you do what Amir Khan has done, and no one is going to blame you if you fail”.

The Bolton boxer will take home around £9m from the Las Vegas bout – the largest pay cheque earned by a Brit fighter since David Haye made £15m from his 2011 defeat to Wladimir Klitschko.

Khan must be careful not to be overwhelmed by the flow of money to his name this weekend, he must stay on the task ahead and that is how to beat the hard hitting Spanish Alvarez.
