Capitals’ Orpik suspended for three games

Carl Hagelin put Pittsburgh ahead in the second period, before Marcus Johansson pulled Washington even on a power play with about 16 minutes to go in the third.

“I didn’t really know what to expect out of how many games; whatever they gave me was something I was just going to have to accept. That’s what we’re going to do moving forward here and hopefully across the league they start punishing everything else the same way”.

Orpik will be eligible to return to the ice for Game 6 of the second-round series, if that game is necessary.

Orpik was penalized two minutes for interference on the play, but rightly the National Hockey League cracked down on the risky play. It was later reviewed by the NHL’s Department of Players Safety, and Orpik had a hearing on Sunday.

Phil Kessel and Patric Hornqvist have scored each of their three goals in this postseason in the Penguins’ three home games. He picked up an assist in Game 2 and now has three goals and eight points in eight playoff games.

In the meantime, the Penguins are without Maatta for the foreseeable future. There is no official status yet on Maatta as he is still being evaluated.

Trotz acknowledged that Orpik, who played parts of 11 seasons for the Penguins before joining the Capitals in 2014, “plays tough against people”. (Although we don’t know how many warnings he’s received.) Using the unofficial playoff game multiplier, that’s a six-gamer in the regular season. He redirected a pass out of a corner from Evgeni Malkin, sending the puck off the right post and past goalie Braden Holtby. The Penguins hope that Fehr can continue to help the team as the series goes on. Pittsburgh finished the game with a plus-11 differential in shots and plus-25 differential in shot attempts.

It’ll be interesting to see if this can continue for the Penguins as the series shifts to Pittsburgh for Games 3 and 4. “It didn’t look good”. However that goal did not end up counting because of an interference call.

“He’ s a big guy, obviously he’s tough to play against”, Crosby said. They get one game. If they can convert on at least a few of those good opportunities the Penguins will have a huge edge.

Next- Game 3 is in Pittsburgh tonight at 8. A two-game suspension in the playoffs is considered a heavy punishment. It was a scary-looking play, one that could have had serious consequences for the Russian defenceman, but he managed to get his arm out and wasn’t seriously injured. “We’ve got guys that can fill his role”. The way they figure it, if they’re skating 5-on-4, the Capitals are expending plenty of energy on their half of the ice. The Capitals’ stars will need to lead the way for the remainder of this series in this matchup of two loaded teams.
