Review; Suriya starrer is truly ambitious
Actor Suriya starrer Science fiction thriller drama “24” based on the concept of time travel directed by talented director Vikram Kumar who delivered blockbuster movie “Manam“, has hit the theaters today. The music and the theatrical trailer so far have received a great response from the audience. Athreya, another character played by Suriya is the main villain who tortures his brother and his wife for the “Project 24”, an invention made by Sethuraman on time travel.

The baddie goes to any degree so as to keep his hands on the time machine to become mortal and to get back everything that he has lost. Without wasting time, the movie through some intolerable events of coincidence manages to open the box in which Sethu’s time machine was sleeping for all these years. Very rarely, the time travel narrative – all about exploring the big what-if – has been tested in Tamil cinema. Meanwhile, Athreya, who has been in coma all these years, regains consciousness (again, this happens by accident and involves an eagle!), and finds himself having aged and paralysed waist down. Two-time Oscar Award victor and the elegant AR Rahman has scored the music for “24”, whose Kaalam En Kaadhali, Naan Un, Mei Niagara and Aararoo songs kicked some real ass. It is not just a good looking film but has lots to offer. Vikram Kumar keeps the screenplay ticking and conjures up enough twists and turns to push the overall silliness into the direction of entertainment.
As the movie moves in the future, 24 is seen gathering loads of scope of having lighter moments. When was the last time you saw something like this?
The climax is another point where the director seems to have worked hard to bring the best outcome. The first half can be called as a standoff between Mani and Athreya, while the intermission comes at the apt time, whereas the second half loads of surprises to catch. The director’s fusion of sci-fi, action, romance and comedy – served with technical finesse and an outstanding performance by Suriya in a triple role – is a treat to watch. Her cute performance is cool and so is her expressions and makeup. Other actors has performed well. 24 is a high budget film with an average spending of around 750 Million Indian Rupees (11 Million $), Most of the scenes were shot at the AVM Studios, Chennai.
