He went on to add that the headquarters of the Armed Forces has allocated a considerable amount of the defense budget – 10 per cent – to research projects aimed at strengthening the country’s defense power.

Iran’s capabilities could spell trouble for the regime’s enemies, a possibility that has aroused global concern.

The United States is seeking a new pretext to impose new sanctions against Iran through the country’s defensive missile program, a PressTV poll finds.

On Saturday, Iran’s Defense Minister Brigadier General Hossein Dehqan said that Tehran has no limitations to holding military drills “and those who came [to the region] from thousands of kilometers away and claim to establish security in the region must know that their presence is a source of insecurity”.

In March, Iran test-fired two more ballistic missiles, which an Iranian news agency said had the phrase “Israel must be wiped out” written on them in Hebrew. An Iranian commander said the test was meant to demonstrate to Israel that it is within Iranian missile range and therefore the country should never falsely assume distance is its safety net. For this reason, testing these missiles is not forbidden outright, giving Iran room to push limits.

The United States and some European powers have said other recent tests violate a United Nations resolution that prohibits Iran from firing any missile capable of carrying a nuclear warhead. Media reports suggested that Iran maintains dozens of short, medium and long-range ballistic missiles with one of the largest missile arsenals in the Middle East. Last month, General Amir Ali Hajizadeh, chief of the Guard’s airspace division, said a new, upgraded version of the Sajjil, a solid fuel high-speed missile with a range of 1,200 miles that was first tested in 2008, would soon be ready.
