The New Orleans Saints designated safety Jairus Byrd, receiver Marques Colston and defensive tackle Glenn Foster as physically unable to perform on Tuesday.

Saints coach Sean Payton and general manager Mickey Loomis both declined to offer any specific details on injuries, but Loomis said they don’t view any of the Saints’ current injuries as “long term”.

The 6-foot-2, 306-pound Bunkley has spent three seasons in New Orleans, starting all but two of 38 games in which he played.

In 2013 and 2014, Bunkley managed to total a combined 30 tackles, without producing a single sack over that time span. This past season, the Saints gave up the second-most total yards in the NFL and were ranked 29th in the league against the run.

Two-time All American long snapper Chris Highland has signed a three year contract with the New Orleans Saints and is expected to report to training camp this week.

“It had nothing to do with we’re going to move on”, Payton said.

“Absolutely”, Payton said. “In fact when we spoke, we spoke about in a week and a half, him coming up for a day and just speaking to guys and spending some time with our team”. Payton said Bunkley still had “quite a bit of work to be done in the rehab process”. “I’d say we were pulling for him as much as anything, because he does have a presence and he’s so well-respected”.
