Kohli, now leading the Indian test side, felt that Vettori was the right man for the high-profile job. It is to be seen if India do go by Kohli’s suggestion and hand Vettori an offer letter, the Kiwi might have to figure out about his Big Bash duties.

According to the report, Kohli who now leads the Indian test side has already submitted the recommendation but there have been no confirmation yet if the BCCI is giving the New Zealander a serious thought yet. Following the axing of Duncan Fletcher at the end of ICC Cricket World Cup 2015, Team India have been under the management of Ravi Shastri as their team director. Apart from this, Vettori also coaches the Big Bash franchise Brisbane Heat.

Vettori has been coaching RCB since 2014.

Vettori retired after New Zealand’s defeat against Aussies at the World Cup Final a year ago.

Vettori replaced the Stuart Law at Brisbane, signing a three-year contract. Vettori, who played for RCB from 2011 to 2013, became its mentor at 2014.

Former Indian captain Rahul Dravid was reportedly approached for the role by the BCCI, but momentarily turned it down as he weighed up his future.
