Bartolo Colon’s Home Run: Limited Home Run Card Available

Apparently, Colon cards are a pretty big hit these days.

CF Yoenis Cespedes hit his 10th homer of the season in the first inning on Saturday night.

The Mets and their fans celebrated wildly, or about as much as you can celebrate anything that could happen during a Mets-San Diego Padres game in May.

The home run comes three weeks before Colon’s 43rd birthday. After Kevin Plawecki looped a two-out double to center, Colon stepped into the batter’s box and promptly whacked Shields’ 90-mph offering out of the park, giving the Mets a 4-0 lead and causing the thousands of fans in attendance to erupt in a frenzy.

When he returned to the dugout, his teammates were hiding in the tunnel before coming out to mob him. It was one of those moments in time where baseball fans everywhere came together in celebration, all out of respect for a player who at almost 43 years old continues to play the game like he was 13.

The milestone shot was one of four home runs for the Mets Saturday.

Furthermore, Colon became the second-oldest player to hit a home run in a Mets uniform, trailing only the ageless Julio Franco, who homered for the The Amazins as a 48-year-old, per MLB Stat of the Day. Deep leftfield! Back goes (Justin) Upton!

Closer Jeurys Familia pitched a scoreless ninth to pick up his ninth save of the season.
