Area breweries win at World Beer Cup
While a large contingent of IN brewers were IN attendance at the Craft Brewers Conference IN Philadelphia, the first week of May, Michael was among the group of brewers with a calendar too full to take off for the biennial gathering with brewers coming from world-wide to share beers and learn from one another.

Odell and Grimm Brothers earned two of 37 medals awarded to Colorado breweries. So it’s the equivalent of the Olympic Games of beer competitions. Arch Rock Brewing Co. and its brewmaster James Smith, of Gold Beach, took the World Beer Cup Champion Brewery and Brewmaster title in the Very Small Brewing Company category. Breakside Brewery, of Portland, took home four medals, the most of any OR brewery.
Miller Brewing Company in Milwaukee won the large brewing company category. “And to be able to bring a gold medal back to the brewery and to Cincinnati validates all of the hard work and individual sacrifices we have made over the past three years”.
The award winners were announced on May 6. They posted these 2016 Award Highlights: 225 breweries won one award. Blue Pants Brewery from Madison, Alabama was the only other brewery from the Gulf South to win a medal.
More than 1,900 breweries from 55 countries around the world entered 6,596 beers in the competition.
Fat Head’s Brewery, of Middleburg Heights, won Gold for Hop Juju, an imperial India pale ale, and a bronze for Midnight Moonlight an American black ale.

Three Floyds, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary, was ranked the fourth best brewery in the world this year by RateBeer, an authoritative and widely used beer review website.
