Anxiety over Trump cuts into House Republicans’ support
Ahead of a private meeting Thursday with House Speaker Paul Ryan, Trump used several televised interviews that aired Sunday to knock Ryan and other influential Republicans, along with a nomination system he says is “totally rigged”.

Sen. Steve Daines of Montana said Monday of Trump: “I want to see him lead and unite the party and the nation”, but wouldn’t endorse him.
“I have no doubt that, unless there’s some unanticipated reason, unless he chooses not to be chair, he will be elected chairman”, Blackwell said.
Another Republican in a closely divided district, Rep. Charlie Dent of Pennsylvania, said in an interview that he and others were finding it hard to support Trump given his history of incendiary comments and his own uncertain record as a Republican, including donations to many Democrats, Clinton among them. I wish I had more time to get to know him before this happened.
Clinton and Sanders are competing in Tuesday’s West Virginia primary. “We just didn’t”, he said.
Trump says he never considered S.C. Gov. Nikki Haley as a running mate.
However Trump’s chief emissary to the Senate, Jeff Sessions of Alabama, said it would be “an honor” to serve as Trump’s vice president.
State Rep. Mike Pitts, R-Laurens, said Republicans need to rally behind Trump.
GOP Senators acknowledged the transition the party needed to make to come together after the long and raucous primary season.
Paul Ryan and the truth are not close friends, but in this case, even Speaker Ryan can’t avoid the conclusion that the Republican Party is falling apart and heading for defeat.
If anything, Mr Trump’s candidacy has thrived because of his resistance to party politics as usual, not despite it. He has broken with Republican leadership in Congress on trade, military intervention and immigration policy.
In other words, get on board or get out of the way. Orrin Hatch, a Utah Republican. “People said I want to go and buy debt and default on debt, and these people are insane”.
“Well I think a lot of us on [the platform committee] are very concerned that Donald Trump is planning to do what he promised Phylis Schlafly he would not do which is do away with our pro-life plank”, McDade told TheDC, explaining that Schlafly gave her endorsement to the NY billionaire when she felt comfortable that he would not change or do away with the plank completely. Just as he wanted to be asked to be Speaker, and just as he probably still wants to be asked to be the substitute nominee, Ryan wants to be asked to scarper from his duties at Trumpapalooza. “And if there’s not going to be unity, I think that’s OK, too”, Trump said in an interview on Fox Business Network.
Felder said she has not personally been offended by Trump’s controversial campaign comments, but some “have been beneath the office that he’s aspiring to”.
Donald Trump has yet to show he knows the difference between Sunnis and Shiites and some pundits doubt he could locate Afghanistan on a blank map of Central Asia.
He also said the turnout during his Senate primary was “huge” perhaps because of the enthusiasm Trump generated.
With what looks like everything on the line in CA, Bernie Sanders has asked Hillary Clinton for California debates, although the chances are slim she’ll agree to them. I can not vote for Donald Trump…. policy is not the issue. “So they didn’t come and not vote for me”.
Toomey appeared to be the only Senate Republican running for re-election to publicly step back from plans to vote for Trump.
Even if Trump sways Ryan, there are other GOP leaders reluctant to help him win.

William Gheen, president of ALIPAC, said his organization is doing all it can to bring down Ryan, who is one of the group’s top three priorities along with the removal of Sen.
