Police capture convicted killer who escaped from NJ prison
According to scanner chatter, Buckel was apprehended just north of the Forked River rest area on the Garden State Parkway, near mile marker 76. He said a 20-year police veteran, detective Keith Pearce, tracked Buckel down nearby and held him at gunpoint as a state corrections officer took him into custody. “The most recent photos are from the Forked River Rest Area prior to the initiation of a search by the NJSP”.

On Monday morning, police had fanned out with dogs tracking Buckel’s scent. A NBC New York reporter posted video from near the arrest scene. He will also be interviewed by the Special Investigation division of the Department of Corrections to determine why he escaped.
“I’m told they have no plans for a press conference and simply plan to do a printed release regarding his capture”, he said. He was taken to a state prison in Trenton, where he couldn’t be reached for comment.
This is a developing story.
Arthur Buckel, 39, was taken into custody in a wooded area off the Garden State Parkway in Ocean County, according to Lacey Township police.
The state police said Buckel had indicated a desire to turn himself in and was making arrangements through his family to do so at the rest area.
Police said after being caught on camera in that CVS and dumping his pickup truck in the parking lot, the escapee has been able to successfully hide out. From that point, his whereabouts are unknown, and police don’t know if he entered a vehicle. He was last seen wearing a gray, long-sleeved sweatshirt, gray pans and work boots.
Police increased security in areas of concern, including schools, during the morning hours and throughout the day Monday. “It worked out”, Paprota said.
Officers and K-9 units checked the wooded area between the Garden State Parkway and Double Trouble State Park.

He only had two weeks left until he was out on parole, but now 38-year-old Arthur Buckel is facing up to five years back in prison for escaping last Tuesday. Authorities discovered the video after receiving calls from people who spotted the man, whose disappearance launched a massive manhunt last week.
