TODAY’S FORECAST: Sunny, high near 64

The weather service is forecasting a “quiet weather week” with a slight warming trend and no rain in the forecast. Winds: South-Southeast 3-8 miles per hour.

Wednesday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 75. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. High temperature near: 86. Tuesday’s highs will range from the low 60s to the mid 60s region-wide. North northwest wind 7 to 15 miles per hour. It’s also expected to usher in yet another round of cold air, with highs in the low 60s for the back half of the weekend and into the middle of next week. Southeast wind 14 to 16 miles per hour becoming north after midnight. South-Southeast 3-12 miles per hour. A few thunderstorms may produce hail up to an inch in diameter and wind gusts to near 60 miles per hour. Friday night: Mostly clear, with a low around 33.

Hail is expected to be dime-size or smaller with winds under 50 miles per hour. Saturday’s highs will be 5-10 degrees warmer than Friday’s.

Rain showers are moving through central Virginia this morning, so you will need an umbrella or a rain jacket as you head out the door to go to work or school this morning.

Expect afternoon showers on Saturday, with a high of 68, and variable cloudiness on Sunday, with a high of 62.
