While Rajasthan State Education Board made a decision to remove references of him from the Class VIII textbooks, the story is a little different in Gujarat.

“The contribution of Nehru in making modern India has been removed from the text book which was done with malintention by the BJP government in the state. The references to Nehru are available in textbooks of Class 7 (Hindi), Class 9 (Social science) and Class 11 (World History)”, Devnani said in a statement.

Nehru’s role in the freedom movement, introducing the Panchayati Raj system, and the non-aligned movement have been given space in the revised textbooks, he said on Tuesday.

The book is to be taught in schools affiliated to the Rajasthan Board Secondary Education and the curriculum has been restructured by the State Institute of Education Research and Training (SIERT), Udaipur.

The new revised textbooks of class VIII doesn’t mention names of Jawaharlal Nehru, Sarojini Naidu, Madan Mohan Malviya and other Congress other leaders. The textbook also fails to mention Mahatma Gandhi’s assassination by Nathuram Godse, the report said.School Education Minister Vasudev Devnani that he is yet to see the textbooks and the books are written by an autonomous body without government interference.

The Congress leaders also burnt an effigy of Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje.

He said that the BJP government added Nehru’s name in the text book of class VII, which was not in the syllabus earlier.

That particular box, besides other references to Nehru in the book, is also missing from the new edition of the book.

He said the removal of any reference to the first prime minister in the Class 8 textbook reflects “the petty mindedness and narrow mindset of the RSS-BJP”. “The RSS could not find a place in the glorious history of India but now the BJP government is removing the contribution of Nehru from history and people will teach them a lesson”.
