Vehicle hits barricade of US Capitol, driver in custody

A vehicle crashed into the south barricade of the Capitol Building in Washington, D.C. Friday morning, and the U.S. Capitol Police department has taken the driver into custody.

Antonio Pierorazio, the driver, is being held by police.

The Capitol Police continued to investigate. His vehicle did not break through the barrier, but he did ram it at a high rate of speed. The auto, a Nissan, drove straight into the barrier from Independence Avenue. The auto, which had Florida license plates, is now being searched by the Capitol police.

“The [U.S. Capitol Police] is now investigating a vehicle ‎that struck the South Barricade of the U.S. Capitol Building”. Police have since reopened the entrance, which is used by members when Congress is in session. The roadway in the area was closed for about two hours after the 8:40 a.m. crash.
