Bernie Sanders wins presidential primaries in West Virginia

He needs 35 percent of the remaining delegates to secure the GOP nomination, but even if he has a big win Tuesday night and, hypothetically, won all the delegates at stake, he would still have a ways to go until he gets the 1,237 required to secure the nomination. His supporters say the impact of party insiders on the nomination process is just one prominent example of an undemocratic system that can tilt a close race against the will of the voting public.

The self-described democratic socialist is known for pushing change on income inequality, college affordability and criminal justice reform.

Sanders, the insurgent candidate, is expected to win the West Virginia primary today.

Clinton’s delegate lead relies in part on the help of more than 500 super delegates – state party officials and other elected Democrats who can vote for whoever they want – who support her.

While a win in West Virginia will not derail Mrs Clinton’s path to the Democratic nomination, Mr Sanders’ continued success will give him leverage to influence the party’s platform.

Johnson, meanwhile, on Sunday said that he represents a segment of voters alienated by Clinton and Trump.

Donald Trump may now be the presumptive Republican presidential nominee, but voters are still going to the polls.

But even with that win, he’s far behind Clinton in the all-important delegate count.

Perez and Nededog both pledged their support to Hillary Clinton after Saturday’s vote showed the Guam party members favored the Secretary of State.

Bernie Sanders looks strong in West Virginia and is likely to carry the state Tuesday. The one exception is Iowa, where he barely lost to Clinton after a hard fought contest in the first-in-the-nation caucus state. “I think she handles herself well”. “But the reason this race is so close overall is Clinton’s historic weakness among white men”. “I’ve thought about leaving the state”.

Bernie Sanders supporter and former Senator of Ohio, Nina Turner, discusses the state of the race for Sanders and also comments on the reality of him reaching enough delegates to win the nomination.

Clinton leads Sanders in total delegates 2,228-1,454 and in pledged delegates 1,705-1,415.

Still, Jane Sanders, a top adviser to her husband, disputed that the campaign was running out of options in an interview Friday.

Brenda Horvath, sat on the front porch of her West Logan home behind a huge sign that read, “Hillary for prison, 2016”. West Virginia’s iconic industry is shedding thousands of jobs amid low natural gas prices, thinning coal seams, competition from other coal-producing regions, poor markets for coal used to make steel, and other factors.

About 4 in 10 voters in the state’s Democratic primary say they consider themselves to be an independent or Republican. “If we fake it then we’re going to go into the fall at half strength”.

“I think Hillary was against the coal miners”, said 81-year-old Dorothy Burford, a Charleston retiree who left her Democratic ballot blank for president.

Clinton would have already been the most unfavorable presidential candidate in history (she now holds about a 54.5 percent unfavorable rating according to Huffington Post and Real Clear Politics aggregates), until Trump came along.
