Donald Trump wins primaries in Nebraska and West Virginia

Bernie Sanders concluded his Salem rally as he typically does in states with upcoming primaries, asking supporters to deliver the highest voter turnout in Oregon Democratic primary history when they vote on Tuesday.

“Our message to the Democratic delegates who will be assembling in Philadelphia is, while we may have many disagreements with Secretary Clinton, there is one area (where) we agree”.

She has 2,240 to Sanders’ 1,473.

He now has won 19 states to Hillary Clinton’s 23. Another 29 delegates will be apportioned based on West Virginia’s results.

“Proportional allocation of delegates makes comebacks really, really hard”.

Clinton received 10 delegates as against Sanders 15. If Clinton wins here she should be out of reach for Sanders.

When including the party officials known as superdelegates who can back any candidate, Clinton maintains her formidable lead. The nomination is clinched by 2,383.

Last week, Trump made a campaign stop in Omaha and he has sent at least two mailers to Republican households in the state, the latest one promising, “As your next president, Donald Trump will fight for Nebraska”.

Now the sole Republican candidate in the contest after his remaining rivals dropped out last week, Mr Trump is transitioning from the fierce primary battles with the likes of Mr Ted Cruz and Mr Marco Rubio to a general election showdown with Mrs Clinton, even amid deep Republican discord about the celebrity billionaire.

Majorities of voters in both primaries say trade with other countries mostly takes jobs from American workers. State law, however, required the party’s presidential candidates to be listed on the primary ballot as well.

In an interview with Glenn Beck, Cruz says he wants to support a president “we can trust … with power who demonstrates a temperament not to abuse that power”.

The Trump campaign says it has begun shifting toward a general election strategy and “implementing an infrastructure capable of securing a victory, including making key hires, building a finance operation to benefit the Republican Party and unifying the party”.

Polls closed at 7:30 p.m.in West Virginia.

Republican voters are also going to the polls in Nebraska on Tuesday. When superdelegates are included, her margin grows to 774 delegates.

Sanders on Tuesday night repeated his calls for guaranteed health care, free university education and a massive boost in infrastructure spending.

Johnson’s appearance on the list was first reported by Mother Jones magazine. West Virginia will send 37 delegates to the convention.

“If he’s not available, I’ll vote for her”, said Jesse Medina, 60, after hearing a rousing speech from Sanders in Stockton.

The presumptive GOP nominee, Donald Trump, will speak in North Dakota later this month, at an oil conference in Bismarck.

Anne Ashley is a 66-year-old substitute teacher’s aide from Scott Depot, West Virginia.

Nearly half of Democratic primary voters in West Virginia identify as liberal, among the lowest we’ve seen in exit polling this year. That state votes next Tuesday.

“I think the party needs to come together”, said Senator John McCain, the 2008 Republican nominee.

The Vermont senator went on to blast the presumptive GOP nominee for his rhetoric on minorities, saying the nation’s diversity should be embraced.

“People are upset our state has changed”, he said, but “I would hope they look at the individual”, he added of Clinton.
