Sanders Campaign Lays Off Staffers at Sites Where Elections Were Held

“Sanders said at a rally at Purdue University in IN on Wednesday that he was “in this campaign to win and become the Democratic nominee”, adding, “If we do not win, we intend to win every delegate that we can so that when we go to Philadelphia in July we’re going to have the votes to put together the strongest progressive agenda that any political party has ever seen”. “We don’t need people right now in CT”. That election is over. They want to see this country do a lot better than we are, but it’s also very personal.

On Wednesday, three campaign staffers told BuzzFeed News that there had not been guidance about the layoffs and there is some uncertainty now about what’s happening. That state votes June 7. A campaign spokesman confirmed the staff changes. He did not specify how many people are being let go or what percentage of Sanders’s sprawling staff they represent.

“This is not an unusual process”, he said.

Clinton extended an olive branch to Sanders supporters, “Because whether you support senator Sanders or you support me, there’s much more that unites us than divides us”. “When we were competing in Iowa, New Hampshire, Nevada, South Carolina and all the March 1 states we had a thousand staffers”. “This is a process that we’ve done before of right-sizing the campaign as we move through the calendar”. Last week, one of Sanders’ top aides told NPR the campaign would have to “re-evaluate” its options depending on the outcome of Tuesday’s primaries.

The moves came just hours after Sanders lost four of five primaries in the Northeast-focused “Acela” primaries to Hillary Clinton.

Clinton has a almost insurmountable lead over Sanders in the earned delegates needed to clinch the Democratic nomination.

Clinton leads Sanders in pledged delegates 1,645 to 1,318, according to the Associated Press delegate tracker. He said “hundreds of staff members” would be affected by the cuts.

US Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders has criticized Democratic leaders for not spending enough time trying to help working-class people and instead focusing on the economic fortunes of large industries. “But unfortunately, right now we have to use all of our resources in the remaining states”.

Weaver emphasized that the campaign was conceding nothing.
