WR Decker surprised Jets drafted QB Hackenberg

From one Jets quarterback to another, Joe Namath has one piece of advice for Ryan Fitzpatrick: It’s time to end the contract impasse, sign a new deal and resume your career in NY.

“I was a little surprised, to be honest”, Decker said, according to the New York Daily News. “But Mike [Maccagnan, the general manager] and his scouts do their research and homework for a reason and they saw something special with him”. Fitzpatrick is asking for a two-year $28 million deal after making $3.25 million last year, which the Jets refused to give, instead they are offering a pay hike between $7-$8 million per year, which Fitzpatrick sees way below for a starter like him.

So Scott explained why an unproven commodity like Osweiler could get four years and $72 million from the Texans, a team which believes it’s a QB away from contention and NY, a club 60 minutes away from the postseason a year ago, won’t even think about $15 million for a guy who surpassed Joe Namath in their record books. “They wanted to get him earlier than later, I guess”.

With Ryan Fitzpatrick still unsigned, the New York Jets are in bit of a predicament at the quarterback position.

If the Jets are unable to re-sign Fitzpatrick there may still be an upside.

Can’t get enough of Campus Sports? It’s no secret that Decker and fellow wideout Brandon Marshall want their quarterback to return.

Others seem less inclined to bend to Fitzpatrick’s contract desires – like Jets owner Woody Johnson.

“[Osweiler] hasn’t reached his ceiling yet”, Scott said. As much as some fans might speculate that Geno Smith could play just as well, he has not proven he can play as effectively as Fitzpatrick. It’s all downhill right now for Fitz… “You’re saying a lot about him”. Man, come on, man. It’s a lot of people out there that are underpaid and there are a lot of people that are overpaid. “If you don’t take it, somebody will. One thing I know about the National Football League is they will turn the page and move on”.

I checked in on this situation and literally nothing has changed between Fitzpatrick and the Jets. It may sound alarming as the Jets only has Geno Smith and Bryce Petty as quarterbacks on their roster with rookie Christian Hackenberg. This is business. Whoever his agent is has to understand that this is the market.
