Speaker Boehner: Effort to oust me ‘no big deal’
Friends of Meadows, Reps.

“I have not”, the speaker said.
If you want to get rid of John Boehner, and I do want him gone, you need to have a strategy.
“I like Mark. I don’t know what’s going to happen”.
REP. WALTER JONES (R-NC): We are sent here to represent the people of our districts.
And Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) tweeted that he would co-sponsor the Meadows measure.
Boehner and McConnell, each deeply skilled political pragmatists who’ve a very good relationship, have discovered themselves repeatedly at odds, together with on the Homeland Security and NSA disputes, even whereas notching wins on points together with commerce and Medicare cost reform. If the motion were to pass – most Republicans say it will be hard to cobble together the votes – Boehner would be stripped of the speaker’s gavel, potentially plunging the House of Representatives into chaos. Clashes between Republican leaders and their conservative flank brought the Department of Homeland Security to within hours of a partial shutdown earlier this year and resulted in a brief lapse in the National Security Agency’s eavesdropping authorities thanks to procedural maneuvers by Sen.
But because the resolution was not “privileged” to force a vote, it’s unlikely to go anywhere.
Meadows was first elected to the House in 2012, winning an open seat created by the redistricting-prompted retirement of Rep. Heath Shuler, D-N.C. Before becoming a lawmaker, Meadows opened a sandwich shop in Highlands, N.C. He and his wife, Debbie, moved to the North Carolina mountains after he graduated from the University of South Florida in 1981.
House Majority Whip Steve Scalise, R-Jefferson, the No. 3 House leader and the former head of the conservative GOP caucus, on which Meadows sits, didn’t immediately respond to his resolution. But some experts have said doing so would take time, as many European refineries have made investments to run on Russian oil and as capacity to import U.S. crude would need to be built.
Meadows’s plan gave Democrats an immediate opening to attack Republicans.
Meadows’ beef? That Boehner “has endeavored to consolidate power and centralize decision-making, bypassing the majority of the 435 Members of Congress and the people they represent”.
Meadows, reports DeBonis, intended to start a “family conversation” among his colleagues. More important, a significant group sympathizes with Boehner privately but is absolutely petrified that having his back when things get tough will conjure a challenge inside the party by conservative ultras whose supporters dominate its primary electorate in so many places.
It’s unclear how much support Meadows has to force a leadership shakeup. Instead they’ve been tearing each other apart in extraordinarily public displays, delighting Democrats and giving some in the GOP heartburn as the party aims for the White House in 2016.
“It’s a ham-handed move and irrelevant to my focus heading into August – which is reviewing what looks to be a very flawed Iran deal, passing a long-term transportation bill, providing more accountability at the VA, and keeping our government funded and operating”, said U.S. Rep. Ryan Costello, R-6th, of West Chester.

One GOP presidential candidate, however, took Meadows to task for launching an issue that distracts the party from winning the White House.
