Over 4,000 nurses, midwives and healthcare support workers at The Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust are joining nurses nationwide to celebrate national Nurses’ Day on Thursday 12 May. Wall has worked at St. Joseph’s as a staff educator for more than 20 years, and has served as a Clinical Nurse Specialist in Critical Care since 2011.

The 2016 theme “Culture of Safety: It Starts with You”, acknowledges the role nurses play as patient advocates in health care settings, according to information from the department.
The President was speaking during the presentation of the National Florence Nightingale Awards to nursing personnel on the occasion of International Nurses Day. Salli and four other nurses from the Trust – Jane Dickinson, Phil Hunter, Linda Graham and Helen Boit – were also presented with the title of Queen’s Nurse. Judges select from a group of nominees submitted each year and highlight the dedication and contributions of 100 nurses. They are now more adept at communicating with patients, and connecting with citizens, communities and policy makers. Out in Fruita, Family Health West employs 46 nurses at the hospital, 30 at the nursing home and two in the assisted living facility. Chen was assigned to work in the hospital’s operating theater – one of the most stressful units in a hospital – after just eight days of training. Mullin said that in order to increase the morale of nurses in Barbados, health systems need “to scale up nursing capacity and encompass a range of strategies that address workforce planning education, skill mates, regulatory frameworks, and career pathways to ensure effective, efficient and safe health systems”.
