The coroner’s office identified the victim as 34-year-old Coral Anita Wilson.

Police say the shooting followed a domestic disturbance, but it’s unclear exactly what prompted the gunfire.

Violence broke out late on Wednesday when the woman’s boyfriend, the suspected shooter, was apparently blocked from entering her house, news website AL.com reported, reports Reuters.

She was shot in the back with a rifle, WIAT says.

Officers say that a witness heard the shooting and saw the children running out of the house.

We’re being told they are in serious but stable condition.

“There are physical injuries but also psychological injuries that they’ll have to deal with for years to come”, Roper said. Roper said he was found asleep in a vehicle, and was compliant.

Court documents show that in March 2016, Wilson filed for a protection from abuse order against the suspect for herself and one child.

The four children who were not wounded are in the care of other family members. They have not released any suspect information at this time.
