Simpson, Carlie Trent’s uncle, allegedly abducted her in Rogersville, Tenn.
Carlie went missing May 4 after her uncle by marriage, Gary Simpson, removed her without permission from her school in Rogersville, the TBI said. It is believed she was taken by her uncle, Gary Simpson.
An arrest warrant had been issued for Simpson on a charge of especially aggravated kidnapping, DeVine said.
An AMBER Alert was issued for Carlie on Thursday, May 5. “When I get to see her I’ll be 100%”.
If you see this vehicle, call 911 immediately.
Gary Simpson has been added to Tennessee Bureau of Investigation’s Top Ten Most Wanted List.
Experts say the first 48 hours after a child goes missing are critical in the search.
According to the TBI, authorities have developed “specific and credible information which leads law enforcement to believe the child is in imminent danger of serious bodily harm or death”.
While tips poured in from 19 states across the country, Carlie Trent was found in Hawkins County, the same county from where she was taken, according to FirstCoastNews.
Carlie’s pediatrician has indicated to TBI he will offer $10,000 in reward money for information leading to her safe recovery.
Carpenter told InsideEdition.com Thursday night, “We’ve been in the woods every day, searching”.
Simpson was Carlie’s former guardian, but had recently lost custody and was back in her father’s care before her disappearance. He was last seen driving a white 2002 Dodge Conversion Van with Tennessee registration 173-GPS.
DeVine said Wednesday morning he has heard some disturbing rumors on social media that if Simpson was trying to protect Carlie Trent.
They also said Simpson stocked up on several items before taking Carlie out of school and fleeing – including a bathing suit, a pack of underwear, two bottles of nail polish, two tubes of lip gloss.
“A nine-year-old, just being a nine-year-old”, the TBI wrote on the video of Carlie, who talks and waves to the camera as she laughs and smiles.

There is now a $15,000 reward for Carlie’s safe return.
