Text messages, Twitter video cast shadow on Laremy Tunsil’s draft selection

“There are things out there, look, I’m sure he’s going to learn from and obviously mistakes were made, but our decision was based on the player and a big body of work”, Tannenbaum said.

Tunsil slipped to the Dolphins after a video was posted shortly before the draft started on his Twitter account showing him smoking from a gas mask bong.

Social media hackers sent out video of Tunsil ripping a bong and screen shots of the star left tackle supposedly asking coaches for rent money.

Tunsil said at the draft Thursday night in Chicago that he accepted money from a member of the football staff while playing at the school. A question about how insane the previous night was met with a positive response. You know this is a good kid. “They’re getting a great man. I’m going to put everything on the line”.

Character questions swirled around Tunsil even before the social media leaks, but the Dolphins said they did an extensive background check on him during the pre-draft process and said he was the No. 2 overall player on their board.

As *Deadspin noted, both of these posts were made during the exact time Tunsil was speaking to ESPN’s Suzy Kolber, so unless he was Instagramming incriminating evidence on NCAA contract-breaking arrangements from his pocket or something, he probably got hacked. “We had all the information on this player, from February on”. There’s total unanimity – the front office, the scouts, the position coaches and the personnel department are all on the same page.

Well, not quite. In the first round the Dolphins were high on cornerback Eli Apple, who went 10th to the Giants. “I don’t think they trade for the sake of trading”. And Ross was ecstatic with the Dolphins giving up three picks to take Leonte Carroo late in the third round.

“When I was a prosecutor, I would’ve gone in and cuffed this guy”, Christie said, who began practicing law in 1987. “We got four players that we wanted – that everybody wanted”. “I can’t wait to see what he does in the National Football League”.

“I have strong opinions whenever a crime is committed, and one this devious and certainly directed to damage his professional career and livelihood”, Farese said. The Dolphins moved up four spots and gave the Baltimore Ravens a fourth-round choice to select him.

“It’s just a blessing to be part of this organization”, Tunsil said Friday.

“The doctor took care of me, so I’m good”, he said.

Grier said the Dolphins did their homework on Tunsil.

That future appears to be bright.

All of his answers were brief and he reiterated several times that he was only at the press conference to talk about the Dolphins.

University spokeswoman Martha Hunn said Lewis was suspended from the team upon his arrest.
