Supreme Court Nominee Garland Submits Questionnaire To The Senate
President Barack Obama nominated Garland in March after Justice Antonin Scalia’s death. The questionnaire is a standard part of the vetting process for judicial nominees, and Garland’s answers detail his employment history, all of the opinions he has written for the court and his pro bono work, among other information.

Grassley said refusing to consent to Obama’s nominee is a legitimate use of the Senate’s advice and consent power provided in the Constitution.
But in Garland’s atypical nomination, the questionnaire has become another tool in the White House pressure campaign. A spokeswoman for Grassley said the questionnaire will change nothing about Garland’s stalled nomination and doubted the Iowa Republican would read it as a result. GOP lawmakers say the Supreme Court decision should be left to the next president.
While Senator Johnson still insists the nomination should wait until the November election for the new president to nominate a candidate, he did say he was willing to meet with the Chief Judge of the Federal Appeals Court.
“After the announcement at the White House, we were thinking about what a good forum would be to connect with Judge Garland and bring him back home to Niles West”, the school’s principal Jason Ness said.
Rogers said that it will be appropriate for the next president to nominate a new justice to the Supreme Court. The lengthy survey typically is drafted by the committee, completed by the nominee, and then reviewed and made public by the committee in advance of committee hearings. Among Garland’s list of most important opinions is his dissent in Saleh v. Titan Corp., a 2009 case in which the D.C. Circuit dismissed the claims of prisoners who said they were abused at the Abu Ghraib prison complex.
Tester expressed frustration with the reluctance of Republicans to hold a hearing.
The New York Times reported this week that Democrats intend to make Grassley the “poster boy” for the stalled confirmation of Garland. Todd questioned the Senator about his meeting with Garland during their interview on Monday. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said in April it’s “safe to say” no vote will be held, according to CNN.

Sen. Chuck Schumer of NY, who is expected to be the next Democratic leader in the Senate, was asked if Garland is not confirmed and Clinton wins the White House, should she resubmit Garland’s name in the next Congress.
