Wives, girlfriends banned by BCCI

The Indian cricket board has decided to stick to its earlier diktat to players regarding their wives and girlfriends.

A majority of the squad selected for the tour have been on a break from cricket since returning from heart-breaking Bangladesh last month. “And we’ve decided that their wives will not be allowed on tour”, a BCCI official was quoted as saying.

In the short-term, it’s learnt that the Indian team won’t just be without a head mentor, additionally their group chief. Shastri as an analyst now for Sky Sports for the ongoing Ashes in England will join the team only on August 12. Law, who is assisting Troy Cooley in the series, though chose to spoke on coaching and more after an absorbing day’s play at the Massachusetts Chidambaram Stadium.

Sharing his thoughts on the upcoming India-Sri Lanka series, Law said, “it is always a good series”. He had by then already signed the contract with Sky. The duo has attracted a lot of attention and, with India desperate to win Tests overseas, the BCCI feels the players should only focus on cricket.

“Shastri will join the group somewhat late as he is in a matter of seconds an expert on a post-match shows on Sky Sports for the Ashes series. He had informed the BCCI about it and as we finalised the BCCI itinerary a bit late, he had already taken permission to skip the early part”, a BCCI official informed.

BCCI secretary Anurag Thakur recently said that the panel comprising of Sourav Ganguly, Sachin Tendulkar and VVS Laxman will most probably recommend a name before South Africa’s tour to India begins in September. While Shastri will associate with as director for each of the three Tests, his future in the role keeps on staying covered in puzzle.
