Sheena Bora was strangled to death, says Indrani’s driver

Indrani Mukerjea’s former driver Shyamvar Rai today told a court he wanted to turn an approver in the Sheena Bora murder case, saying he would like to “disclose some truths” as he was a “participant” in the crime.

He was summoned to the witness box on Wednesday by Special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Judge H.S. Mahajan and questioned about the case, wherein he admitted that Sheena Bora was strangled to death.

When the judge asked him why he had written the letter, Rai replied, “Sacchai jo hai is case ke baare me wo bolna hai (I want to tell the truth about the case)”. Along with the Mukerjeas, Rai’s deposition could also spell trouble for Indrani’s ex-husband Sanjeev Khanna for the murder of her daughter, Sheena, in 2012. The judge directed the CBI to file its reply on May 17. It also asked Thane Jail Superintendent and Thane Police Commissioner to ensure that Rai is produced in the court on the next hearing.

Her body was found on May 23 that year by the local police, but the crime went unnoticed till August 2015 when the sensational murder case unfolded and forensic tests confirmed the remains belonged to her.

The judicial custody of Indrani and Perter Mukherjea has been extended till 17 May.

The media honcho was arrested on November 19 a year ago for his alleged role in the murder conspiracy in which his wife Indrani Mukerjea is the prime accused.

Sheena was strangled in 2012 allegedly by Indrani Mukerjea, her ex-husband Sanjeev Khanna and driver Shyamvar Rai. He had also denied the allegation of being informed by Indrani about the murder and stated that the said calls were made by Indrani to her daughter Vidhi.

Rai revealed that Sheena was killed by strangulation. Jail authorities had cited lack of staff. In March, Rai, through his lawyer Shrinivash Bhave, had pleaded to be shifted out of Arthur Road Jail due to “mental stress and tension caused by the prevailing circumstances”.
