Prince investigators seek drug sources

Our sources say…so far there is no evidence anyone other than Dr. Michael Schulenberg prescribed drugs for Prince.

Music legend Prince died on April 21 at his Paisley Park home in Minneapolis at age 57.

Kirk Johnson, a friend of Prince’s, told investigators that the musician had also been hospitalised for an illness in either 2014 or 2015 and was given fluids at the time, according to the warrant.

Michael Todd Schulenberg, who said he wrote prescriptions for Prince, was named in search warrant that was served May 5 at the medical center where he practices family medicine, according to the Los Angeles Times. Schulenberg worked at North Memorial Physicians clinic in Minnetonka, Minnesota…ten miles from Paisley Park.

Schulenberg is the second doctor whose name has surfaced in the investigation.

The musician’s representatives called Dr. Howard Kornfeld, a national authority on opioid addiction treatment, on April 20 and asked him to go to Prince’s home because they were “dealing with a grave medical emergency” but it was too late. Prince was supposedly going to to be subject of an intervention before his tragic death.

The Associated Press reports that a “sheriff’s auto and about a dozen unmarked vehicles” were seen entering the Paisley Park property on Tuesday evening. Kornfeld sends his son, a non-physician, on a red-eye flight to Minnesota, carrying a drug used to treat opiate addiction.

No one answered the door Wednesday at the Schulenberg home in Excelsior, a southwestern Minneapolis suburb just a few minutes’ drive from Prince’s Paisley Park compound.

At least two doctors have been identified as having contact with Prince or his staff before he died. A spokeswoman for the health care system declined to elaborate.

Schulenberg earned his MBA in health care in 2011 from the Opus College of Business at the University of St. Thomas in Minneapolis. To be certified, doctors are required to undergo an eight-hour training course.
