Carson Wentz signs rookie contract with Eagles

Under the NFL’s collective bargaining agreement, it was a pretty standard deal for that slot in the draft.

Wentz’s deal is reportedly worth $26.67 million and included a signing bonus of $17.6 million.

The rookie wage scale helps avoid prolonged holdouts.

That is the type of profuse praise which has Eagles’ fans salivating to see Wentz line up under center for Philadelphia. He will be joined by 54 other players, most of whom are not under contract or are roster long shots.

With Wentz having inked his contract, all eight of the Eagles’ 2016 draft picks are now signed, according to Phil Sheridan of ESPN. They did so with an eye on selecting Wentz, who played at North Dakota State. “They didn’t get him, so they got [one] in the draft”. The full team is scheduled to begin a three-day voluntary camp on Tuesday.

Condon said he spoke to Howie Roseman, the Eagles’ executive vice president for football operations, before Bradford’s return. Both players indicated that they would accept that term. “And if you play great and you’re fantastic on the field, they love you”.

Wentz is expected to back up Eagles starter Sam Bradford in 2016 before eventually taking over. The price tag of the trade also was too steep to keep Wentz on the bench.

The Denver Broncos, shopping for a quarterback, wanted no part of his contract and instead drafted Paxton Lynch. Sam made a business decision that had the opportunity to be good for him and it didn’t work out. He is not afraid to roll out of the pocket and use his feet to buy time or make an attempt to run for a first down.

The Eagles made two trades to move up from the No. 13 pick in the first round of the draft to the No. 2 pick.

“I’m excited to be back on the field today with my teammates and coaches, ” Bradford said in a statement released to the media by his agent Tom Condon. “Nothing goes on. No possible trade options”.
