Police were called to Sowerby High School on Wednesday May 4, around 3.15pm following reports of a fight outside the school in Albert Road between a pupils aged between 14 and 16-years-old.
Trejo, a San Fernando resident, confronted school officials at the charged meeting, accusing them of not listening to students. “I don’t want them here anymore”, said parent Susan Galan.
The fight, involving as many as 40 students, was captured on video and was widely shared on social media.
As the actor pointed at the crowd, he said, “They’ll come up with the solution”.
Schools superintendent Michelle King denounced the students’ actions in a Tuesday morning statement and acknowledged that the school had increased security measures as a result of the incident.
Dozens of students took part in the fight, which some youngsters told KTLA was a continuation of tensions between black and Hispanic students that began over the preceding weekend during the school’s prom celebration.
“As the head of the most diverse school district in the nation, let me be very clear: We will not tolerate targeting or violence of any kind on our campuses”, King said. Disciplinary action including suspensions have already been taken with some of the students involved. Regarding the recent conflict at Sylmar High School, law enforcement is continuing to investigate.
“I don’t feel safe at school!”
“The first time Mexicans and African Americans got together, we got a black president”, Trejo added during the discussion, urging an easing of racial tensions.

“This was an incident that just snowballed, and it had to do with a dispute with people outside of our school community”, he said.
