The federal government had stated it anticipated a U.S. request after Guzman’s final seize in February 2014, however earlier lawyer common Jesus Murillo indicated in January 2015 that the capo wouldn’t be handed over so he might serve time in Mexico.
Not only has Sinaloa cartel boss Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán managed to escape maximum security prison twice, he has also won a provisional suspension against potential U.S. extradition while on the run. Seven prison workers have been charged in connection with the escape. Arely Gomez, Mexico’s current attorney general, said in a brief statement on Thursday that her office had received and approved the extradition request from a judge in Mexico City.
President Enrique Pena Nieto’s decision to maintain Guzman in Mexico instead of immediately extraditing him to the United States last year has come under scrutiny since his latest escape.
The U.S. government is offering a reward of 5 million U.S. dollars for anyone with details leading ot the capture of Guzman.
The worldwide Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) is now searching for the escaped Mexican drug lord, Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman, in the Dominican Republic, on reports that he may have sought refuge there.
