The Congress Party claimed victory soon after a trust vote was conducted on the floor of the Uttarakhand Legislative Assembly on Tuesday, triggering celebrations among its members.
Shortly after the court’s directions, the Union Cabinet recommended to the President lifting of President’s rule to enable restoration of the Rawat government.
On 9th May, the Supreme Court had ordered that the nine disqualified members of the Uttarakhand assembly cannot take part in the floor test of Harish Rawat Govt.
“Hope Modiji learns his lesson – people of this country and the institutions built by our founding fathers will not tolerate the murder of democracy!”, Gandhi posted on his official Twitter account.
“I will meet the prime minister and finance minister (Arun Jaitley) if I get invited”, he said.
BJP on its part said it did not look at the development as a set-back to the party. The disqualified members also appealed to the Supreme Court, which will be heard by the Court on 12th July.
Ganesh Joshi of BJP claimed that it was a victory for BJP constitutionally because nine MLAs of Congress had voted for the BJP in the past and now one more MLA has voted for BJP. He tweeted, “They did their worst”.
Harish Rawat welcomed the decision of revoking President’s rule in Uttarakhand by the Central Government. We did our best.
Secondly he wasted no time in disqualifying the rebels who could not win any of their court appeals against it.
Politically, the Congress has as yet refrained from bursting crackers, but the BJP has ended up with huge embarrassment as its attempt to dislodge the State government has come a cropper.
“We need the central government’s support”. The judges had on that day taken an undertaking from Rohatgi that President’s Rule won’t be revoked so long the top court was seized of the matter.

Celebrations broke out in Dehradun the moment the news trickled in that Rawat had won the trial of strength held in the assembly yesterday. “It was the people of Uttarakhand who lost”.
