John Mara says Giants have not been allowed to examine JPP
In addition to the amputation, NFL.com reports Pierre-Paul also had surgery to insert pins into a broken thumb and could be out until the end of training camp. I don’t think he’s receiving the best advice.

As Giants players arrived at the team’s practice facility Thursday for the beginning of training camp, Mara said Pierre-Paul wasn’t in attendance, and added that he had no idea when he would arrive.
Pierre-Paul’s agent did not immediately return requests for comment.
Pierre-Paul reportedly had his right index finger amputated to accelerate his recovery with the goal of playing this season. “We miss you”.
Joe Robbins/Frederick Breedon/Getty ImagesTom Coughlin texted Jason Pierre-Paul nearly a month ago and still hasn’t heard back. “We know what we’ve read and what we’ve been told, but until we actually see him and the extent of the damage, it’s hard to make any sort of prediction as to what kind of condition he’s in”.
Their real hope, though – maybe their only hope – is that JPP comes “home” and at some point, even with nine (or fewer) fingers, can play like the JPP of old. But he has not allowed the team to examine him in person and there has been no indication when or if he’ll show for training camp. This still irks Coughlin, and has led the Giants head coach to believe Pierre-Paul and his camp may be attempting to hide something from the team.
Mara had previously said on Wednesday that he found it “very disappointing” that Pierre-Paul refused to see team officials while in the hospital, per The New York Post. “I think this would be the best place for him to be for a number of different reasons”, Mara said. ESPN’s Dan Graziano says Pierre-Paul is going to come back “sooner than expected”.
However, those words weren’t enough for Mara and the Giants’ organization, who have insisted that they have the player’s best interests at heart and want to make certain he’s being properly cared for.
Let’s face it. Pierre-Paul isn’t going to be a $14 million player in 2015. Victor Cruz raved about the support the Giants gave him while he recovered from the knee injury that cut short his 2014 season.

As for the franchise tag and any potential long-term contracts; Mara did admit that the team presented a multiyear deal to Pierre-Paul that the defensive end rejected. It’s not going to sour anything.
