A bloodbath of shows axed for new shows to debut next season
Sunday we see finales for “Once Upon a Time” (7 p.m., ABC), “The Family” (9 p.m., ABC), “Last Man on Earth” (9:30 p.m., Fox), “Dice” (9:30 p.m., HBO) and “Quantico” (10 p.m., ABC). Previously it was reported that Stana Katic and Tamala Jones would not be coming back to the show after the eighth season concluded its run.

ABC’s procedural-dramedy Castle has been axed after eight seasons, amid a round of cancellations preceding the networks’ upfronts presentations to advertisers this week.
CBS killed off CSI: Cyber, its final CSI offshoot, after two low-rated seasons, and The CW canceled Containment, which makes for sad news for its three viewers out there.
Numerous show’s stars have taken to Twitter and Instagram to voice their feelings on the cancellation and thank the fans for their continued support.
In preparation for ABC’s decision, the Castle crew filmed two different episodes for Monday’s night episode, which we now know will indeed be the series finale and not just the season eight finale.
Premiering midseason in 2009, “Castle” was created by Andrew Marlowe.
This season’s in-flux cast contracts were nothing new to “Castle”.
The larger surprise is that a year ago, this was considered one of the most ambitious shows of the fall season.
Jon Huertas also tweeted his response to Castle being cancelled. At the time, it was reported that the network was actively pursuing star Nathan Fillion for an abridged ninth season, but ultimately the network chose to pull the plug. Unfortunately for the fans, this probably means we won’t get a very satisfying ending to the series since the showrunners were hoping to squeeze out one last season.

Country music-themed soap Nashville will come to an end later this month after four seasons on ABC. “There is death in every episode of Castle”, Hawley said. “Castle” could get dark at times, but this is romantic comedy; it’s “All’s Well That Ends Well”, not “Romeo and Juliet”. Sources also revealed to Us that Katic and Fillion had to go to couples counseling together to work out their problems. Seamus Dever posted a cast photo on Instagram, Molly Quinn called Castle “a cornerstone of my life”, and Toks Olagundoye called it “one of the most fun and fulfilling years of my entire life!”
