There’s no direct correlation between the news of filming in NY and Cuba, but the two provinces sit close in proximity to one another, meaning that the two sets could see the entirety of Fast 8 on the east-coast of the United States; rather than the locale of the western region, based around Los Angeles, where the “Fast and Furious” franchise got its start from.

Getting a permit to shoot “Fast & Furious 8” in Cuba is no easy as the government does not allow filmmakers to shoot in the country. By the way, we have seen many movies set in Cuba but they were all hoaxes – since no Hollywood production crew has been there for decades.

In an unprecedented move, the latest installment of the franchise, Fast and Furious 8 is the “first global movie to film in Cuba, according to Vin Diesel in a video uploaded to YouTube by Fast Family”. “You can feel the emotion from all the locals”, said Fast 8 director F. Gary Gray. Over the course of the first seven movies the cast and crew traveled to Rio, Dubai, Panama, the Canary Islands, Hong Kong and Tokyo, among other locations. It is scheduled to be released on April 14, 2017.
Despite the unfortunate loss of actor and franchise frontman Paul Walker, the “Fast & Furious” series will live on.
