Amir Khan: British fighter has no regrets despite knockout

“I wanted to go out there as a champion”. But in the fifth round the champion finally settled down and forced Khan to stay put with his jab and right hand. That is why I took this fight.

“I’ll fight him right now”.

“I am old school”, Golovkin said just before the fight.

This was Khan’s first go at middleweight and he said he has no plans to continue to fight in the 160-pound division. He fought in spurts, landing combinations and seemingly frustrating Alvarez with his movement.

Khan was knocked out in the 6th round after he threw a lazy left hand that Canelo took advantage of by coming back with a right hand.

“I didn’t make it to the end, but I tried my best”, said Khan. Alvarez didn’t move but it was indicative of a fearless start by the Brit, who claimed the opening two rounds.

“I’m not in this sport because I’m afraid”.

Alvarez-Khan was the first boxing match to take place at the 20,000-capacity arena. – Canelo (47-1-1, 33KOs) was smart, he knew he couldn’t outbox Khan, (31-4, 19KOs) he soon realised the speed of Khan was no joke too.

Gennady Golovkin expressed on his Twitter account that he was ready to face Canelo Alvarez after winning against Amir Khan. Alvarez spent most of the early rounds swinging wildly with his left hook, a punch that has leveled Khan before.

Harshly for Khan, by some distance the smaller fighter in the ring, only one of the three judges had him leading.

At this stage Khan’s prediction that speed and movement would trump power looked like it might come true, while he was certainly confounding those critics who said a year of inactivity would blunt his edge.

The favored victor added that people only saw his power, but did not consider that he still has other skills inside the ring.

“I think he can beat anyone at 147 or 154”.

The road for Canelo to get the fight everyone has been actually waiting for just got shorter.

Please someone forward me info on Amir Khan’s funeral arrangements.

“But I sat down and saw a few fights of Canelo’s and thought, ‘You know, this guy’s beatable”. “I would like him to understand us”. “I’m in the peak of my career, everything was going fine until that one big shot. I’ve not spoken to Al yet – he wants to talk with me – I also need to speak to Virgil Hunter, my trainer”.
