In addition to the cancer survivors, their caregivers were also honored, and Ronnie Sadler sang The Survivors’ “You raise me up”, as event co-chair Kathy Payton handed wristbands.

Christel Dorbin, who was at the relay this year, said, “Personally, this means a lot to me”.
Hundreds walked laps at Boardman Center Middle School to raise money and bring awareness for the annual Relay for Life.
A community that may be small, but is big in their strength and teamwork for a cause.
“It’s wonderful”, she said. I would say we had the largest crowd we’ve had out in years. “There are so many good kids that have done so much, and we have done so much”. The students’ fundraising efforts started about two weeks ago: you may have seen a purple toilet being passed from lawn to lawn in some Binghamton neighborhoods, representing flushing away cancer, and students started by placing the toilet on the school presidents’ lawn.
The time for tonight’s opening ceremony for Relay for Life has been changed from 6 to 7 p.m. Organizers have pushed back the time because of the threat of inclement weather. In total, about 600 people are here to support them.
“It’s just great feeling, seeing them walk, and just be survivors, and have great feeling of being a survivor”, said senior Maddison Lowery.
The couple has already raised more than $2,600 and hopes to top $3,000 for their own Relay for Life team – Team Mama Gaeta.

Harrisonburg and Rockingham County held their relay last week and raised nearly $300,000.
